Fashion designer Roshan Kumar’s main motive is to usher in change in designing. While he started out from Orissa, the young designer has subsequently displayed his creations around the globe
Fashion designing is one of the most productive, engaging, and exciting career options in today’s world which can only be pursued by those comes with great talent and creativity. And if you are the one who has a penchant for style and innovation, then this is the right path for you, as Roshan Kumar correctly points out.
Fashion designer Roshan recently showcased his creations at the Mysore Fashion Week with the theme ‘Bold Beauty’. Dwelling on his collection in detail, he says: “My collection doesn’t define a woman, it enhances today’s womanhood. Bold colours and prints define how women of today function. They are free-spirited and have the will to show the world who they are and what they want to be. Green is the colour of nature and maroon represents the earth, purple represents the elements and grey and black absorbs all negativity. Minor embellishments represent all the positivity in life. The outfits are perfect for cocktail parties and social gatherings.”
The main motive of the designer is to usher in change in the field of designing. He started out from Orissa and subsequently spread his wings around the world.
Roshan was born and bought up in Berhampur and has completed higher studies from Jupiter Plus II Science College. “Since childhood, I was keen to deck up my mom and cousins in fancy ways making them wear all kinds of dresses and heavy jewellery. Although I never had thought of pursuing my career in fashion I did my four-year degree from KIIT school of fashion technology, Bhubaneswar. The idea of playing with colours was always there and I always wanted to live a glamorous lifestyle. Thankfully, my family always supports me,” says Roshan.
The fashion designer’s first assignment was a western frock which now he thinks was a complete disaster compared to rest of his work. September 15, 2011, was a turning point in Roshan’s life as he met his future business partner and best friend, Dinendra Pratap Singh Deo, and from that point there was no looking back.
Who is the designer’s role model? He says: “To be honest I never looked up to anyone in the initial phase of my life as I just wanted to do my own thing. At present there are many designers whose work I really follow like Sabyasachi, Gaurav Gupta and Sadan Pandey.”
Roshan, who is today a famous fashion designer, once wanted to be a pilot. “I always wanted to fly high so I aimed to be a pilot and travelling was also my passion. Coming across new places and knowing about people was always something that I wanted to do,” he says.
The designer confesses that designing had a lot of contribution in his life and has shaped his career. “At the initial days of my career I was heartbroken, but gradually I picked up the tricks of the trade and today I am sure that my decision to choose fashion as a career was worth it. I still have a lot to offer,” he says.
Dimple queen Deepika Padukone and actresses Kangana Ranaut and Alia Bhatt are Roshan’s favourite actors and whichever movies these actress act in becomes his favourite. ‘Simran’ was his favourite movie which released recently.
