Jeypore, July 1: Administration Wednesday sounded high alert for a week in undivided Koraput district in the wake of observance of protest week by the Maoists and bandh call July 7. Fifteen bus services have been suspended in the district to prevent any untoward incident during the week while tight security arrangements made to check violence by the ultras. Eight buses would not be plying in Malkangiri district routes while four buses would be off the road in Paralakhemundi-Phulbani route. Similarly, one bus each has been withdrawn from the route leading to Araku of Andhra Pradesh and Jalaput and Gupteswar of Koraput. The services will remain suspended till July 7, DTM Rajendra Pujari said.
On the other hand, the routes of all the buses plying via Rayagada to Bhubaneswar and Berhampur have been diverted. These buses will roll via Andhra Pradesh. All the police stations of the district have been kept on high alert and asked to intensify the combing operation during the week. While the Maoists’ protest call triggered panic in the district, the police have been asked to seal the border to check violence. Reds are observing the week in protest against the alleged fake encounter and torture of tribal by Orissa-Andhra Pradesh Police.
