Athagarh: A sick elephant calf which was rescued from Khuntuni Forest Range under Athagarh area in Cuttack district August 16, allegedly died due to medical negligence Monday night.
Forest department sources said the seven-month-old sick calf died due to loose motion and fever while undergoing treatment at a local veterinary hospital.
The health condition of the baby elephant allegedly deteriorated due to improper medical care, alleged the locals.
Notably, the calf was rescued by locals from Khamarnuagon village from a mud well under Khuntuni Forest Range August 16. According to reports, the calf had been separated from a herd which sneaked into the area in search food. While returning back to the forest they had left behind the elephant calf.
