Bhubaneswar, April 13: In a move to tackle teachers’ crunch, the state government has decided to fill the vacant posts at the elementary schools with retired school teachers.
Despite appointment of Sikhya Sahayaks at government-run elementary schools, many schools have huge vacancies in teaching posts for which the government has decided to launch a scheme called ‘Teachers on Call’ and appoint retired teachers at a remuneration of `300 per day up to a maximum of `5,200 per month.
Good track record would be taken into consideration while teachers with record of misconduct or criminal background would not be eligible for the appointment. To get appointment under ‘Teachers on Call’ scheme one should not have exceeded the age of 65 years.
The block education officers (BEOs) would be the appointing authorities of their respective blocks as per the requirement. The term of engagement shall be from July 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016 till the government appoints Sikhya Sahayaks in the vacant posts.
The BEOs will prepare a list of candidates who are willing to join the elementary schools. The list then will be referred to the selection committee for approval after which the engagement will be made.
The selection committee would comprise of the BEO, two additional block education officers (ABEOs) and two headmasters. The committee will have quarterly meetings for preparation of a list of retired teachers.
Moreover, the respective heads of schools would have to maintain a separate daily attendance of the teachers.
Absence by the teachers on any particular day would call for a deduction of the daily remuneration.
Complaints regarding non-performance, absence or dereliction of duty by the teachers would be probed by the school management committee. The teacher may be disengaged from the assignment based on the report of the school management committee.
