Phulbani: Special judge, Phulbani Tuesday convicted Bhabagrahi Samantaray, a former Assistant Engineer (retired), RWSS Boudh and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a period of three years and to pay fine of Rs 5,000 for demanding and accepting bribe, said a source.
The court said in default of payment of fine, he has to undergo RI for a period of three months more for the offence.
The source further said that Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of pension of Samantaray following his conviction.
Mentionably, Samantaray was chargesheeted by Vigilance in Berhampur in February 2019 for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant for preparing final bill of a solar drinking water project.
