BHUBANESWAR: The 7th edition of national-level theatre festival ‘Ajit Natya Mahotsav-2018’ organised by Abhinaya Jagruti Institute of Theatre (AJIT), a city based theatre troupe, was kick started at Rabindra Mandap in Bhubaneswar, Tuesday.
An Odia play ‘Rebati’ was enacted by artistes on the inaugural day of the three-day theatre festival. ‘Rebati’ is one of the first major modern Odia work by ‘Vyasa Kabi’ Fakir Mohan Senapati. The story depicts themes like feminism, girl education, love and superstition.
Even in the 21st century, the government is forced to run projects like ‘Beti Padhao Desh Badho’. The story based on elements of modernism was written 100 years ago. The story raises many questions which are still unanswered.
Tragedy strikes both Rebati, who happens to be the protagonist, and her father Shyamabandhu Mohanty who abandon their mission halfway through. The revolutionary writer was successful in raising awareness in the minds of people during his times.
Senapati’s 175th birth anniversary was celebrated all over the state recently. Abhinaya Jagruti Institute of Theatre is a professional group of the theatre lovers and professionals. The goal of the group was to publicise theatre in the modern world.
The idea was not only to bring masses to the auditorium but to convey social messages in a realistic manner as well. The idea was to put forth a podium wherein talents would be exposed, literature unveiled and tradition folk and culture showcased.
