Baripada: Two people died while three others sustained grievous injuries in two separate road accidents in Mayurbhanj district Friday.
According to sources, a person was killed while his mother-in-law and niece sustained critical injuries after the bike they were travelling on was hit by a pickup van near Asanbani Chhak on NH-49 under Bisoi police limits this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Kalundia of Sanamanada village. The injured duo was later admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, irked locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased person. On receipt of information, police reached the spot to pacify the angry mob.
In yet another incident reported from the district, a youth died while another sustained critical injuries when the bike they were travelling on collided with a pickup van near Tarakoti under Betanoti police limits.
While Baidhar Bhakta (28) succumbed to his injuries on the spot, Sonia Dehury who was critically injured in the road mishap was admitted to Betanoti community health centre.
Meanwhile, the pickup van driver fled the spot leaving his vehicle near Tulasichoura. Betnoti police reached the spot and seized both the vehicles.
