Road mishaps claim 2 lives

Odagaon/Parjang: Two persons lost their lives in two separate road mishaps in Nayagarh and Dhenkanal district Saturday.

In the first incident, a person died while another one escaped unhurt when a truck they were travelling on rammed into a roadside tree on NH-21 near Rohiba under Odagaon police limits in Nayagarh district Saturday.

The deceased identified as Sipun Dehury of Tumusinga village in Dhenkanal district who was working as the helper of the vehicle died when the coal-laden truck rammed into a tree after the driver lost control over the wheels. Reportedly, the truck was heading towards Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district from Dhenkanal.

While Sipun died on the spot, the truck driver fled from the spot. On receipt of information, police reached the spot, seized the body and started an investigation.

In yet another road mishap, a person lost his life when the bike which he was riding on skidded off road and crashed at an agricultural field near Gudibandha pond on Hatiluchani-Kualo road under Parjang police station in Dhenkanal district Friday night.

The deceased identified as Pandav Sahoo of Singada village of Kalada panchayat had gone to in-law’s house of his sister when he lost control over the wheels following which the bike skidded off the road and plunged into a low-lying agricultural field.

Some locals who had gone to attend nature’s call Saturday morning spotted his lifeless body lying in a pool of blood being crushed under the weight of the two-wheeler and informed his family members.

Police have reached the spot and sent the body to Parjang community health centre for post-mortem.
