Royal Bengal tigress from MP makes its first kill in Satkosia

Angul: A Roya Bengal tigress brought to the Satkoisa Tiger Reserve in Odisha from the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, to help in reproduction, made its first kill soon after its arrival Thursday night.

After its release into the enclosure, the tigress attacked the prey, a wild boar. It consumed half of it at the night while it was seen feeding on the remaining parts Friday morning.

It was amidst high security that the tigress was ferried to Satkosia in a special vehicle accompanied by a team of forest officials and veterinary doctors from Odisha as also Madhya Pradesh.

The team had to struggle hard to transport the tigress safely through 700km across MP, Chhattisgarh, the Sohela gate, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Redhakhole, Boinda, Badkera, Bantala, Mahidharpur, Hinol and finally to Satkosia.

The tigress was relocated to Satkosia as part of the Odisha government’s initiative to give a boost to the big cat population in the state. Altogether, six tigers will be translocated to the reserve under the initiative in phases, it was learnt.
