Bhubaneswar, June 29: The railway protection force (RPF) officials Monday misbehaved with passengers including women who were protesting on the tracks of platform No.4 after their train got reportedly late for more than 15 hours.
The protesting passengers were mostly from Chhattisgarh and had reportedly booked tickets for Puri-Durg Express.
A team of RPF officials led by inspector-in-charge Sanjay Swain started pulling the protesting passengers in front of Rajdhani Express and in the process also touched the private parts of a woman. The team also did not have any woman official with them, sources said.
The incident, was, however, recorded by a news channel, and when the RPF officials took note of it they thrashed the reporter and the cameraman. The officials also broke the camera and damaged the video tape in which the whole matter was recorded.
The RPF officials then detained around seven passengers, including four women, and two journalists, sources said.
However, after the media persons came to know about the incident, they reached the spot and protested outside the RPF office along with other enraged locals.
The media persons demanded the suspension of the inspector and demanded an apology from them.
GRP inspector-in-charge Saubhagya Kumar Swain tried to pacify the media by saying that the RPF IIC would apologise, but in vain. The passengers and the two journalists were released by the RPF.
Meanwhile, the RPF IIC was reportedly suspended following the incident.
