Rs 47-crore LINAC facility launched at AHRCC

Cuttack: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday launched the LINAC facility at Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre under which full-fledged treatment has been started for cancer through a high energy linear accelerator, a low energy linear accelerator and a CT simulator.

The high energy accelerator made by Swedish company Electra is stated to be the first-of-its-kind in eastern India, while the low-energy accelerator made by Siemens is stated to be the first in Asia. The LINAC block set up at an expenditure of Rs 47 crore was dedicated to the people at a programme attended among others, by Lok Sabha MP Bhartruhari Mahatab, Rajya Sabha MP Anubhav Mohanty, health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, health secretary Arti Ahuja, Mayor Meenakshee Behera. The CM also laid the foundation stone for a six-storied building for expansion of the cancer centre. The state government has made an allocation of Rs 20 crore for the new block, which will come up in two years. PNN
