Jeypore: Two cheques amounting to Rs 6 lakh as compensation to the family of a victim in Bariput stone quarry tragedy have bounced.
Family members of Ghanashyam Guru of Deogarh, who was killed in the landslide at a stone quarry in Bariput, claimed that the two cheques given by the Red Cross Fund have bounced.
Father of Ghanashyam, Duryodhan Guru said, “The Koraput Collector had given two cheques worth Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively but were rejected at the Utkal Grameen Bank, Deogarh branch citing insufficient funds in the account.”
Authorities of the District Red Cross unit were unavailable for comments.
Last month, two labourers, Ghanshyam Guru of Deogarh district and Sanjay Das of Athagarh were killed following a landslide at a stone quarry at Bariput hills in Koraput district.
Bodies of the two labourers were rescued after a massive rescue operation carried out by the NDRAF, ODRAF and fire personnel team.
