Rayagada, April 2: In a clear case of security lapses at the State Bank of India main branch at Rayagada main market, a man entered into a cash counter of the bank and looted Rs 80,000 from the drawer of an official Thursday afternoon. The incident took place at around 2 pm.
As per the report, a man entered into the cash counter which was being handled by a bank clerk Sunita Thappa and suddenly took away Rs 80,000 kept in her drawer and fled. All officials including Thappa spotted him looting the money but did nothing to nab them as they were stunned by the incident.
Significantly, four security guards were also on duty when the incident took place. Despite of this, the miscreant was able to loot the money and run away.
After the incident, the bank authorities analyzed the CCTV footage and concluded that the loot was recorded by the CCTV installed inside the bank.
But, no complaint was lodged with the police regarding the incident till the time of filing of this report.
Meanwhile, the branch head of the bank, Sailendra Nanda allegedly misbehaved with some mediapersons when they wanted to know from him about the security lapses at the bank. He even threatened some media persons and manhandled them.
The incident, meanwhile, has raised serious questions over the security arrangement made at the bank.
