Basudevpur: Tension ran high at Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC) in this district after a woman patient was allegedly administered an expired saline Tuesday.
Angry relatives and family members of the patient created ruckus in the CHC. The incident spread resentment among other patients as well as their attendants, who accused the medical authorities of utter negligence and misconduct.
They demanded a probe into the incident and action against the staff responsible for dereliction of their duty. This affected healthcare in the CHC for a while under some senior medical authorities arrived and pacified the agitators.
According to available information, a woman was admitted to the Basudevpur CHC over some disease. A nurse Tuesday morning attended the woman and administered a saline. Meanwhile, an attendant of the woman happened to spot the IV fluid bearing an expiry date (April 2018).
The attendant then informed the family members who expressed resentment over the issue. What’s more astonishing was that the hospital staff took out the expired saline after the ruckus and allegedly administered it to another patient. This further added to the tension, reports said.
No police complaint has been lodged in this connection.
Meanwhile, another report from Jajpur road community health center (CHC) In Jajpur district stated that a newborn was allegedly administered an expired TT injection Monday evening.
Sources said, Prerna (name changed), wife of Biswajit Chand of Chitragobardhanpur village under Sadar police limits had delivered a baby boy in the CHC Monday.
A nurse at the pediatric ward allegedly administered a TT injection to the baby that had expired since June. However, the mother spotted this and alerted her family members.
However, the nurse cunningly tried to avoid the matter by stating that there was no threat to the boy from the expired injection. However, this did not go well with the baby’s family members, sparking tension in the CHC.
