Gandhinagar, Dec 22: The BJP Friday decided to retain Vijay Rupani as the chief minister of Gujarat and Nitin Patel as his deputy. The decision was taken at a meeting of newly-elected party legislators, supervised by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. The meeting was also attended by BJP General Secretaries Bhupender Yadav and Saroj Pandey.
Rupani had taken over as chief minister of Gujarat from Anandiben Patel in August 2016. He won from the Rajkot West assembly segment at the recently concluded assembly polls with a margin a margin of more than 53,000 votes. Patel, in turn, had retained his Mehsana assembly seat, defeating Jivabhai Patel of the Congress by about 7,000 votes.
