Sambalpur: Sachikanta Mallick of Sambalpur emerged champions in the 400 metres freestyle event of the 58th State Level Swimming Championships at Jhasaketana Swimming Complex here Saturday. Akash Sahoo of Cuttack emerged runner-up, while Antaryami Bhoi of Sambalpur finished third.
Two hundred six participants comprising 136 boys and 70 girls from all the districts of Orissa are participating in the competition. They will fight for supremacy in 92 disciplines in four categories.
Official resigns
Cuttack District Sepak Takraw Association general secretary Sahadev Rout resigned from his post in Cuttack, Saturday. Sahadev, who is the founder of Orissa State Sepak Takraw Association (OSSTA) has not specified any reason for his resignation.
Referee no more
Former national football referee Dhaneswar Bhoi passed away in a city hospital in Bhubaneswar, Friday. He was 57.
Dhaneswar suffered an accident near Bargarh, June 21. He was being treated in a hospital in Bhubaneswar when he breathed his last. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Football Association of Orissa (FAO) members expressed deep condolences over his sad demise.
