Sale of baby: Admin denies media reports

Bolangir, June 1: The district administration Monday refuted the media reports which claimed that a man from Talpalipada headquarters had sold his four-day-old son to arrange money for carrying out his treatment.
In view of media reports, two members of district child protection unit conducted inquiry into the matter and submitted their report to the collector, which said that man had not sold the baby but handed him over to one of his relatives to take care of him.
A section of media Monday reported that Vedavyas Das had sold his four-day-old son to a person for `25,000.
Vedavyas, suffering from some illness is undergoing treatment in Bolangir district hospital since last two months. The doctors had referred him to VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla.
However, Vedavyas could not arrange money for further treatment and sought help from district administration but in vain.
He therefore, sold his son to another person; it was reported in a section of media.
However, Vedavyas had denied the reports claiming that he had handed over his son to his sister to take care of him. His wife had also made a similar statement.
