Sales manager found dead; foul play suspected

Deadbody

Rourkela: A sales manager of a pharmaceutical company was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a house in the Civil Township area under Raghunathpali police limits Saturday morning, with cops suspecting foul play.

The deceased, identified as Bhagirathi Swain, 35, from the Nuagaon area of Jagatsinghpur district, had reportedly arrived in Rourkela two days earlier to resolve a financial dispute with acquaintances.

He was staying at a house near the LIC office in the Civil Township locality. According to Raghunathpali inspector-in-charge (IIC) Suraj Jhankar, Swain hosted a dinner with three to four friends Friday night. His body was discovered inside the house the following morning.

Police officials said Swain had sustained a deep head injury, and blood was seen coming from his mouth, strengthening suspicions of murder. Acting on a complaint filed by his relative, Pramod Parida of Chhend area, police registered a case (98/26), recovered the body, and sent it for postmortem.

“We are awaiting the postmortem report to determine the exact cause of death,” the IIC said. Police have detained two of Swain’s friends for questioning, while another individual is reportedly absconding.
