Cuttack: Additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) (first class) Sanjay Kumar Sahu Wednesday convicted four members of a family including a woman in the murder of a man and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
Ahalya Ojha, Rabindra Kumar Ojha, Santosh Kumar Ojha and Tapan Kumar Ojha were found guilty in the murder of Bhagyadhar Ojha of Jagannathpur in Salipur police limits of Cuttack district that took place March 16, 2012.
According to details of the case, Bhagyadhar was on his way back home from Kajihaat March 16, 2012 when the four had brutally attacked him with weapons on Jagannathpur canal bridge over suspected land dispute. The attackers had fled the spot when the victim’s family reached there after hearing his screams. The family members and fellow villagers rescued Bhagyadhar in a critical condition and rushed him to Salipur hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Later, Bhagyadhar’s son Manoj had lodged a complaint with Salipur police. The police had registered a case under Sections 302, 506 and 34 of IPC. During inquiry, the police found that the murder was the fallout of a dispute over land and arrested the four persons.
Subsequently, the police had submitted the chargesheet and the trial begun in the ADSJ court. The court pronounced the verdict after taking into consideration the statements of 19 witnesses, police records and circumstantial evidences.
