Bhubaneswar, Dec 2: Serving judge of the International Court of Justice and former Supreme Court justice Dalveer Bhandari heaped lavish praise on KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta while on a visit to the university in the city Tuesday.
“Samanta’s work in the field of education and social service is unparalleled,” said Justice Bhandari, who was felicitated at a special function organised by KIIT University in his honour.
“It is unbelievable how a dream of one person can be translated so beautifully in the world,” said Justice Bhandari.
“Dr Samanta has done a great service to the cause of education and the tribal population of the country for which he will always be remembered,” Justice Bhandari added.
The judge was conferred with a D Law (honorary causa) at a special function at KIIT Tuesday. The doctorate was conferred on him during the 10th convocation of KIIT University which was held November 8.
“Education is indispensible for the development of the downtrodden, especially the tribal community. We can make them a part of the mainstream through education. Education gives knowledge along with social security and success in life. Perhaps tribals are deprived of education and that is why we’re witnessing consequences like Naxal menace,” Bhandari said.
When questioned about how entrepreneurs can assist in building a better India, he said, “Entrepreneurs should invest more in building learning centres. The reputed universities of the world like Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford that we see today, are all built either by entrepreneurs or private trust boards.”
Justice Bhandari is the second Indian to become the Justice of the International Court of Justice. He has been working for nine years in the International Court of Justice.
“It is indeed a proud moment for Orissa that for the first time any Judge of the International Court of Justice has graced his presence in the state,” Dr Samanta said.
Chancellor of KIIT University NL Mitra conferred D. Law honorary causa on Justice Bhandari in the presence of Dr Samanta, Prof. PP Mathur, VC, and Dr Sasmitarani Samanta, registrar, KIIT University.
