Sambalpur: A fresh bomb threat has been issued to the District Judge’s court in Sambalpur, prompting an extensive security response, officials said Thursday. The threat was received via an email sent to the court registrar, following which police swung into action. Bomb disposal squads, along with police and fire services personnel, rushed to the spot and conducted a thorough search of the court premises, including the civil court and the District Collector’s residential office. After nearly three hours of checks, no suspicious object was found in or around the premises. This is the third such threat in the past four months. Similar emails were received earlier January 8 and March 1. Additional Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra said the email claimed that explosives had been planted to blow up the District Judge’s court.

In response, security has been tightened across the premises. Screening of visitors is being carried out at all entry points using advanced equipment, including door frame metal detectors (DFMD) and hand-held metal detectors (HHMD). Armed police personnel have been deployed in and around the premises. Police had earlier registered a case at the cyber police station regarding the threatening emails. Preliminary investigation suggests the emails originated from abroad. Investigators have traced IP addresses to countries such as the Netherlands and Germany. Efforts are underway to identify the actual accused persons in accordance with international protocols, officials said. Former president of the Sambalpur Bar Association and senior advocate Pramod Rath said the mystery behind such emails must be unravelled using technical expertise.
