Sambalpur varsity to not allow three students in hostel

Sambalpur:

The Sambalpur University syndicate has decided not to allow three students, who allegedly attacked an assistant professor, to stay in hostel till completion of enquiry, reports said.

The students were accused of attacking the assistant professor of the department of political science, Rajat Kujur September 24. The syndicate had earlier constituted a high level committee to inquire into the attack.

Rajat Kujur was allegedly attacked by three students in his office chamber September 24. Kujur was allegedly attacked as he did not attend a cultural event organised by students.

The students, however, denied the allegations made by Kujur. They alleged that Kujur called one student namely Biswa Ranjan Jena to his office chamber and asked him to serve liquor. When the student allegedly denied, the professor had attacked him. They also alleged that Kujur had links with anti-socials and often threatened the students who opposed him.

Meanwhile, Burla police registered two separate cases by both the groups in connection with the incident and launched a probe. Until the probe was on, the syndicate asked the students to not enter the varsity hostel.

On the other hand, the university syndicate has also asked the assistant professor to answer the allegation made by the students. The university syndicate has also decided to initiate a departmental inquiry into the allegation of the students against the teacher.
