Beijing, Oct 9: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis are just a win away from clinching their eight title of the season as the duo entered the final of the women’s doubles event of the China Open here Friday. The top seeded Indo-Swiss pair recorded an easy 6-2, 6-3 victory over the wild card Chinese duo of Chen Liang and Yafan Wang in a match, which lasted 66 minutes.
Sania and Hingis outplayed their less fancied opponents in all departments of the game. They broke their opponents’ service five times in the match.
Meanwhile in the men’s singles World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No.8 registered contrasting victories. Djokovic was at his imperious best in his 6-2, 6-2 demolition of the big-serving American John Isner. In the match, Djokovic hit 42 winners and made only 12 unforced errors. He did not face a single breakpoint on his serve while he had 12 on the Isner serve.
Nadal, on the other hand, after losing the first set had to battle it out against Jack Sock of the US for a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jack Sock victory. The No. 3 seed fought back to defeat the World No. 30 in little more than two hours. The Spaniard hit 10 less winners than Sock’s 29 but was the more consistent of the two. He committed 10 less unforced errors than his opponent’s 35.
In the other quarterfinals played on the day, Fabio Fognini of Italy overcame Pablo Cuevas 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 while Spaniard David Ferrer made it to the last four with an easy 53-minute 6-1, 6-3 victory over Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei.
In women’s singles, second-seeded Ana Ivanovic made it to the semis with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova while Agnieszka Radwanska trounced Angelique Kerber 6-1, 6-4.
