Bhubaneswar: City mayor Ananta Narayan Jena distributed personal protective kits to sanitation workers of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) at an event here Wednesday.
The event was organised to educate the workers about self-protection, hygiene and healthcare.
Stating that Bhubaneswar is the prime urban local body (ULB) of the state, Jena said, “We should give utmost importance to safety of our sanitation workers thereby promoting their hygiene, health and dignity as human beings.” If these citizens are safe, we can find our city clean and safe, added Jena.
The mayor also had an interaction with the workers and counselled them to use the kits properly.
Stressing on safety of sanitation workers, deputy commissioner, social welfare, Lalatendu Sahu said, “This is also an important component under Swachh Bharat Mission.”
Helmets, masks, aprons, raincoats and gun boots were distributed to the sanitation workers. Around 850 sanitation workers will be provided with such personal protective kits. Among other officials deputy mayor K Santi, city health officer Rama Chandra Rout and chief finance officer Labanya Sabar were present.
