Bhubaneswar: National Award-winning actor Sanjay Mishra arrived in Bhubaneswar Thursday to begin shooting for his maiden Odia film, Madhumalati, a romantic drama slated for release during Durga Puja 2026.
Speaking to Orissa POST at the airport, Mishra said, “This is my first Odia movie, and learning the language will be a challenge for me. I have visited Odisha before and have also been to Puri.” He is expected to remain in the state until August 26.
Produced by Auroshree Films and directed by Mrityunjay Sahoo, the film stars Maheswata, Akash, Bhoomika, Sanoj, Pragya, KK and Bhaswati, among others.
Set in the 1980s, Madhumalati is being billed as a nostalgic romantic drama that seeks to recreate the era’s charm, emotions and innocence. Carrying the tagline “80s Romance is Back,” the film promises a blend of romance, drama and nostalgia.
An alumnus of the National School of Drama, Mishra is known for acclaimed performances in films such as Ankhon Dekhi, Masaan, Phas Gaye Re Obama, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Kadvi Hawa, Kaamyaab and Vadh.
His performance in Ankhon Dekhi earned him the Filmfare Critics’ Award for Best Actor, an honour he later received again for Vadh. He was also honoured with the Best Supporting Actor award at the 72nd National Film Awards.
