Bhubaneswar: A movie Sapana Tie, ‘A dream’ in English, was screened at theatre here Thursday.
The educational movie dealt with the subject of Persons with Disability (PwDs), showcased their thought process, aspirations and most importantly it focused on the treatment meted out to them by the society.
Set in a village called Sapanpur, the story revolved around a government employee, Bijay Rath alias Biju, his widowed 70-year-old mother, his wife Mala, and his two sons, of whom the elder son Babloo is a specially-abled child.
Babloo is ostracised from the village community as his activities were found unacceptable. Biju’s house witnesses serpentine queues of vexed villagers complaining about Babloo’s activities. The movie narrated the story of Babloo who had to face the ruthless society, his septuagenarian grandmother. Babloo struggled through his educational career and became a square peg in a round hole for the society.
Interacting with Orissa POST, the movie director, Milan said, “Every child is equally blessed by the God, be it a specially-abled one or a normal kid. No disease or problem can be cured with hatred and, impatience and love is the panacea.”
She added that it always had been her dream to make a movie like Sapana Tie where she could make aware the audience about the plight of the “Divyangas.”
Sarthak Sarathi, one of the audiences, was emotional after watching the movie. One of Sarthak’s relatives is a specially-abled kid and he said that he could associate with Babloo’s family.
