Bhubaneswar/Kendrapada: Tikhiri gram panchayat Sarpanch Chameli Ojha of Mahakalapada block in Kendrapada district Monday launched an indefinite hunger strike at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar, demanding action against the block development officer (BDO) and inspector-in-charge (IIC).
Ojha launched the strike against the alleged “injustice and atrocities” committed against her and demanded immediate disciplinary action against the Mahakalapada BDO and IIC.
The sarpanch said, “I was subjected to mental harassment and physical assault.” She added that no action has been taken against those responsible, forcing her to launch the hunger strike.
“I will continue the hunger strike until I get justice,” she said.
According to the sarpanch, she was subjected to alleged misbehaviour at the Mahakalapada BDO’s office June 11 during a visit regarding some official work. Following an altercation at the office, she was reportedly taken into custody and arrested. She has sought disciplinary action against the BDO and the IIC, besides demanding a fair inquiry into her arrest.
Mahakalapada administration and police are yet to respond to Ojha’s allegations.
