Bhubaneswar, August 4: In order to make the banking services more accessible to the people of the state, the largest public sector bank the State Bank of India (SBI), plans to open 30 new e-corners in the state, a top official of the bank said.
“To make banking easier in state, we are planning to open 30 new e-corners in the state. The new e-corners will be opened by the end of this fiscal, taking the total number of such outlets to 65,” SBI CGM B.V.G Reddy said at the inaugural event of the 35th e-corner in the state.
Elaborating on the expansion plan in this fiscal, Reddy said the bank is planning to increase the number of recyclers (ATM machines facilitating deposits also) to 402 from 120 in the state. The total number of recyclers to be opened will also comprise 172 old ATMs, which will be converted to recyclers by this fiscal.
“The bank will open new 110 recyclers by this fiscal against the target of 125 in the state. It has already opened 15 recyclers in the first quarter and hopes to open the rest by the end of this fiscal. The bank also plans to open 125 more ATMs in the state by this fiscal,” SBI assistant general manager, Mukti Kanta Kar, said, adding the e-corners will help the people to update their passbook, deposit as also withdraw money at one place rather than travelling to the bank branches.
Speaking about the growth of the bank, Reddy said, it has registered a year-on-year growth of 12.8 per cent in the state in deposits and 11.6 per cent in advances as recorded by quarter ending June.
