New Delhi: A division bench of Supreme Court comprising Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Anita Roy will Tuesday conduct the final hearing of sensitive temple demolition matter from Cuttack in Orissa.
It was earlier stayed by the Supreme Court in May 2013. This was done on the basis of applications of a few temples including Khannagar Sai Temple and Chahata Rama Nandita and Gayatri Sakti pith (on 31.03.2013) and the famous Panchamukhi Hanuman temple in Cuttack.
On January 6, 2011 a bench of Orissa High Court had delivered a judgement and directed to list the number of unauthorised temples which were not in the Record of Rights (RoR) published in 1987.
Accordingly, 207 temples were listed in Cuttack and thousands of temples all over Orissa. The demolition drive started in 2013 when 36 temples including Cuttack Gundicha temple were demolished. Authorities of a few temples challenged the order in the apex court.
