Kataka: Critically injured patients at the trauma casualty of Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) are facing difficulties as essential Trenaxa injections and catheters have reportedly been unavailable for the past 20 days.
Trenaxa injection helps control bleeding and is considered essential in the treatment of critically injured patients.
However, due to a shortage at the medical college and hospital, relatives of patients are being forced to purchase the medicines and catheters from pharmacies outside the hospital.
Doctors posted at the trauma casualty have reportedly informed hospital authorities several times about the shortage and requested that the supplies be restored.
However, no steps have been taken so far, sources said.
According to information available, hundreds of seriously injured accident victims visit the SCB trauma casualty every day.
Earlier, the hospital supplied around 150 Trenaxa injections during a single shift, but the number has now reportedly fallen to just 10 injections a day.
Similarly, catheters are reportedly not being supplied at all to critically injured patients at the casualty.
As a result, relatives are being forced to purchase Trenaxa injections for about Rs 80 each and catheters for around Rs 300 from outside pharmacies, adding to their financial burden.
The shortage of essential supplies at SCB’s critical trauma casualty has sparked resentment among patients’ relatives. SCB additional superintendent Dr Jyotirmay Nayak could not be reached for comment.
