Bantala: Hundreds of locals from five villages under Nandapur panchayat of Bantala block in Angul district locked the Chandanpur Upper Primary School over the transfer of two schoolteachers Friday.
They demanded immediate cancellation of the transfer orders. The villagers along with the village education committee together warned of surrounding the district collector’s office Monday if the orders were not cancelled.
According to sources, the school was established by the government 1872. The school teaches students from Class I to Class VIII and is the only school in the panchayat thereby being a source of education for students of Chandanpur, Saruali, Rajnaagar, Benajhari and Nuabadadandasahi.
While the school accommodates 121 students, it has just five teachers. Meanwhile, the news of transfer of two teachers triggered tension among the villagers. In protest, they locked the school and demanded the cancellation of the order. The village education committee submitted a written memorandum in favour of block education officer, district education officer and the district collector. PNN
