Hatadihi: A senior journalist suffered a fractured leg after he was allegedly assaulted in the Ramachandrapur police station area of Anandapur subdivision in Kendujhar district Saturday, police said.
Police arrested the accused, Pankaj Panda, 21, of Sainkul village Sunday based on a complaint. Ramachandrapur police registered a case (309/2026) based on the complaint and arrested Pankaj.
He was produced in court Sunday, police station officer Manoj Swain said.
According to the complaint, Manas Ranjan Mohanty, a correspondent for ‘Dharitri’ in Joda block, was travelling towards Bhubaneswar in a four-wheeler Saturday evening.
Around 5 pm, a vehicle driven by Pankaj overtook Mohanty’s vehicle near Suanpada under Ramachandrapur police limits. Mohanty alleged that despite repeatedly honking, Pankaj did not give way.
Pankaj later stopped his vehicle, got out, and allegedly abused Mohanty in foul language. When Mohanty protested, Pankaj allegedly grabbed him by the collar, dragged him and assaulted him in the middle of the road.
When he tried to resist, Pankaj allegedly pushed him, causing him to fall onto the road.
Mohanty suffered a fracture near his right thigh. Passersby rescued him and admitted him to a local hospital.
