Bhubaneswar: A seminar on ‘Women Safety and Empowerment’ was organised by Sadhana Foundation at Lohia Academy here Friday.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal presided over the seminar and delivered the keynote address.
Swati exhorted the women to unite and fight against any form of molestation. She underlined the need to protest and change the system for a women-friendly society. Swati lamented over the condition of women and urged everybody to work for a safe and empowered society. She urged all the women commissions to work together and protect the vulnerable.
It may be mentioned here that the 33-year-old Maliwal was recently in the headlines for sitting on a 10 day hunger strike protesting against the infamous the Kathua rape case in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sujata Mohapatra, member secretary of Sadhana Foundation, coordinated the programme and said, “We (women) all must follow the footsteps of Swati madam to achieve a women-friendly society.” She expressed her concern over the growing atrocities and rape incidents and urged the government to take steps.
Among others, Kiran Megi, a member of Delhi Commission for Women, and social workers Satyabhama Ratha and Madhumita Ray Chowdhury were present at the event.
