Bhubaneswar: The additional secretary of Odisha’s transport and commerce department, Arun Kumar Biswal, was arrested Friday for allegedly “sexually harassing and attempting to murder” a woman employee, police said.
Biswal was arrested following a written complaint lodged by the woman at Kharvelnagar police station.
According to police, the 55-year-old Odisha Administrative Service officer visited the woman’s residence Thursday night and allegedly created a ruckus. He also allegedly abused and misbehaved with her.

On being informed, a PCR van reached the spot and detained the officer, police said.
Based on the woman’s complaint, a case was registered at Kharvelnagar police station and Biswal was arrested under various charges, including attempt to murder and rape, a police officer said.
Police recorded the woman’s statement and conducted a medical examination of the accused before producing him in court, he said.
