Sambalpur: A Plus II Arts first year student of a private residential school under Sasan police limits here was allegedly thrashed by some seniors after tying his legs up for two days.
The incident comes days after a similar ragging incident at the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) at Burla in Sambalpur district.
The matter came to light after a police complaint was lodged Tuesday at the Sasan police station in the town alleging that Abhisek Mishra, a Plus II Arts first year student of Vedic International School was thrashed by some seniors.
It is alleged that a few students of Plus II second year – Smrutiman Mahakur, Rajkumar Dharua, Akash Sahu, Anshuman Maula and a few others – were involved in the incident.
As per the complaint, the Plus II first year student was brutally assaulted with iron rods, belts and sticks by his seniors.
While thrashing him, the seniors also covered his face. The incident happened three days back but the authorities of the residential school did not inform the victim’s parents and administered him first-aid in a room of the college.
The victim’s parents came to know about the development when they visited the college to meet their son. They alleged that principal Anand Agarwal has issued a warning to the senior students after a police complaint was filed by victim’s father Goura Charan Mishra.
The hostel warden, however, instructed the parents to meet the student at the campus hospital where he has been admitted. But the parents of the student found him in a critical condition and got to know about the incident from him.
Following this, they lodged a complaint at Sasan police station against four Plus II second year students of the residential school,” said a relative of the victim.
“When I asked the principal about the matter, he said he was not aware of any such thing,” said the student’s mother.
