Angul: BSNL service was snapped in this district after a major fire broke out at the BSNL telephone exchange here, near the bus stand late Friday night.
Sources said, the security guard first saw fire emanating from the building and immediately informed higher officials. On getting information, the higher officials reached the spot and informed fire tender team who reached there and doused the flames.
Meanwhile, the electricity department was directed to cut power supply to avoid any untoward incident. Even as the fire personnel tamed the flame, machinery worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes. Preliminary investigation attributed short circuit for the mishap.
“The fire incident has affected BSNL service in the district. Efforts are on to set things right,” informed BSNL SDO P K Debta.
