Cuttack: At a time when incidents of circulation of intimate videos on social media are growing alarmingly in the state another girl approached Mahila police here Friday accusing her boyfriend of uploading a vulgar video involving her on social media.
Acting promptly, police registered a case and arrested the accused who was identified as Debidatta Harichandan (23) of Reba area in Salipur.
Police have seized a cell phone and laptop from him and taken steps to delete the intimate videos on the internet.
Police said the girl belongs to Jobra in Cuttack. In 2015 when she was pursuing Plus III she befriended the accused on Facebook. Later, their friendship blossomed into love. Subsequently, they met and decided to take their relationship to the next level by tying the knot.
In the course of their love affair, the youth took the girl on a date outside the city and got intimate with her promising to marry her. He clandestinely recorded their intimate moments on his mobile phone without the girl’s knowledge.
Meanwhile, the accused secretly started an affair with another girl. When the complainant came to know about this she protested. Annoyed with the repeated complaints of the girl the accused asked her not to contact him further and threatened to make the intimate videos viral if she defied him.
As the girl kept contacting the accused, the latter got infuriated and uploaded the intimate video on the web. Later, the girl’s family lodged a complaint against the accused, said Mahila police inspector-in-charge Anusuya Nayak.
