Bhubaneswar: Over 100 girl students ransacked the Air Hostess and Hospitality Academy (AHA) institute in Kharvel Nagar in the city Wednesday afternoon.
The students broke furniture and later assaulted the institute’s director in full view of the media alleging sexual harassment and fraud by the officials in the name of campus placements.The students said they were forced to deposit Rs 1.5 lakh each in order to get jobs in the hospitality industry. They said they were sexually harassed by their employers outside the state.
“We filed a complaint with Kharvel Nagar police station a week back but no action was taken against the institute. This is why we resorted to the violence,” said Anil, a student.AHA director Dilip Routray reportedly filed an FIR against the agitating students. Sources said police were likely to place the agitating students under arrest on charges of vandalism. Students said they were not being given certificates and demanded their fees back.
