Paradip: In a bid to encourage more youths to join the Indian Navy, Indian Naval Ships (INS) ‘Sumedha’ and ‘Tihayu’ have arrived at the Paradip Port ahead of the National Navy Day celebrations December 4.
As per the reports, both the vessels will drop anchor at the port for a two-day public exhibition during the Navy Day celebrations. Visitors will be allowed to tour the ships to commemorate the achievements of Indian Navy in 1971 in Karachi harbour during the Indo-Pak war.
INS Sumedha is an indigenously developed Naval Advanced Offshore patrol vessel of the Saryu Class which was commissioned at Visakhapatnam March 7, 2014. It has several weapon systems, sensors, state of the art navigation system and communication/ electronic warfare equipment which make this ship a highly potent platform to take both symmetrical and asymmetrical tasks during conflicts. The vessel was constructed at the Goa Shipyard Limited, Goa, and is a symbol of the ‘Make in India’ policy.
INS Tihayu has been specifically built for meeting the requirements of extended coastal and offshore surveillance and patrol. With high speed and low draught being their mainstay, these vessels excel in rapid interception deployments, induction of landing parties and surveillance of large coastal areas.
