Dhenkanal: Tension gripped Ganjeidiha village under Dhenkanal Sadar police limits after some villagers brutally thrashed a man and his son and then threw them into a pond Saturday evening.
They were attacked over them using water from a well in the locality, it was learnt.
The critically injured Shyamsundar Dhal and his son Santosh are battling for life at Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital (DHH).
Sources said that the attackers had a quarrel with Shyamsundar and his son over using of water from a well.
Shyamsundar and Santosh had gone to the village pond to bathe Saturday evening. As they reached the pond’s bank, the attackers approached them and before the father-son duo could understand their motive they started beating them. They continued thrashing them until they fell on the ground unconscious. Then the attackers threw them into the pond and left the spot.
As the news spread, family members rushed to the pond and rescued Shyamsundar and Santosh in a critical condition.
They were immediately shifted to Dhenkanal DHH where they are still undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, a video of the incident has gone viral. Police took cognizance of the case. While policemen have been deployed at the village to check further escalation of tension, the police have detained two of the attackers.
A detailed probe is underway.
