Bhubaneswar: Shreyas Mishra of Orissa clinched a gold medal in the recently concluded World Martial Arts Council Games at Manchester. Shreyas bagged the yellow metal in the sub-junior boys’ segment of the kick-boxing event.
India secured a total of six medals including three golds and an identical number of silver medals in the five-day meet which had started September 1.
Beside the state lad, Sikkim’s Anvi and Abhiraj were the other participants who secured gold in their respective events. Srikant Somase and Shreyas Chouhan – both from Maharashtra, and Manish Tomang of Darjeeling bagged the silver medals in their respective events.
Narrow win
United Youth Sports Club (UYSC) scripted a narrow 3-2 victory against Bhabani Football Club (BFC) in an exciting match of the 14th Gati Krusna Memorial (Division-B) football match here, Saturday.
Nagendra Barik gave BFC the lead in the 27th minute when his shot curled back into the net leaving UYSC goalie with no chance. Six minutes later SuniL Hembram made it 2-0 to give BFC an upperhand.
However UYSC came back strongly after the break scoring three goals within seven minutes to seal the match in their favour. Bikeswar Lakra (50th), Sasikanta Rout (52th) and Chinmaya Majhi (57th) were the scorers for UYSC.
