Bhubaneswar, April 5: Around 40 paintings are being exhibited in a six-day camp for artists. Organised by the Jaleswar Art Foundation (JAF), the camp was inaugurated at Orissa Modern Art Gallery here Sunday.
Works of about 40 artists, who participated in an art camp conducted by JAF in November 2014, are being exhibited in the camp.
Ashwani Kumar Patra, MLA, and Tarakant Parida, secretary Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi, inaugurated the program and encouraged the artists to make every possible effort and work real hard to progress in the field.
Muktipada Nandi, secretary JAF said, “Jaleswar is known for its archaeological importance and has many sites where one can see glimpses of its rich history. There are many artists in the area who have the potential, but because of the lack of opportunities and exposure they did not taste success. The basic intention behind organising the camp here in the city with the works of artists from Jaleswar and the neighbouring areas is to promote the art and artists of the region and to give them the exposure
they deserve.”
One of the artists from Jaleswar, Bhaktinarayan Sarangi, two of whose paintings are in the exhibition, said, “I have exhibited two paintings, which I made during the art camp organised by JAF at Jaleswar in November 2014. One of my paintings is about Radha Krishna portraying the pure love of the two. The subject of the other painting is ‘mask’ that basically portrays the different emotions of people, which they hide behind their original face. Everyone is wearing a kind of a mask, behind which they hide their anger, sorrow, jealousy, love, hatred etc. I just tried to highlight all those emotions through my painting.”
