Nabarangpur, May 24: The administration Sunday lodged a complaint with police against a woman for branding a six-month-old boy’s abdomen with a hot metal for curing his disease. Collector Rasmita Panda had earlier issued a direction to the officials for filing a complaint regarding the incident with police.
In compliance with her direction, the district child protection officer Suresh Kumar Pattanaik and sub-collector Birendra Karkara went to Kodinga police station and filed a complaint.
The administration also started inquiry into the incident. The probe is being conducted by the sub-collector.
The incident came to light after the child’s mother brought him to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital Saturday. Before this, she had taken him to a hospital in Papadahandi block. But, the doctors had referred him to Nabarangpur DHH.
The child’s mother Rupadei who is a native of Bariguda village under Papadahandi block said that the abdomen of her son Sambaru had swelled up and he was writhing in pain. On the advice of some of her neighbours, she along with her husband had called a woman quack of Singaguda village to their house for curing his disease.
The woman quack branded the boy’s abdomen with a hot metal several times. However, it did not help in curing the disease of the boy following which his parents took him to hospital.
After the boy was admitted in the DHH, the collector Panda was informed about the matter. Panda directed the district health officer Niranjan Nayak to make proper arrangement for the treatment of the boy. Accordingly, the boy was given proper treatment and he was shifted to ICU Sunday.
Sub-collector Karkara also visited the hospital and enquired about the health condition of the child. The victim’s father was also advised by the administration to lodge a separate complaint with the police.
