Dasmantpur: Guardians of about 60 students from four villages under this block in Koraput district have refused to send their children to the new upper primary school at Bhanjaguda village due to poor condition of the road.
Even as there is just one school for children of four villages, the kuccha road leading to the school has turned muddy and slippery due the rain.
The parents of the schoolchildren claimed that very often children fall down on the road and sustain injuries while on their way to school.
So, the guardians of the schoolchildren denied sending them to schools until the road was repaired. The irate parents warned to stage dharna in front of the block office demanding immediate construction of a cement concrete road.
“We want our children to be safe. We send them to school to learn and not to get injured. The road has turned into a deathtrap. Despite repeated complaints the administration is not paying heed to repair the road,” a local said.
Notably, 60 children from Daliguda, Thelguda, Bhangaguda and Sanbhanjguda of Paraja Bedapadar panchayat under this block study at the school in Bhanjaguda village.
When contacted, block development officer (BDO) Sukant Majhi said an inspection would be done and steps would be taken accordingly.
Locals alleged that the village is deprived of all basic facilities due to the absence of a concrete motorable road. Moreover, only one school in the area is insufficient to cater to the educational need of four villages.
