Bhubaneswar, June 10: Smaraki Mohanty and WFM Rutumbara Bidhar won their respective matches to share the top position with four points apiece after the completion of the fourth round of the Nalinikanta Mohanty Memorial Fide Rating Orissa State Women’s chess tournament at DS Law College in Kendrapara, Wednesday.
Smaraki of KIIT outwitted Shreejita Khuntia of Cuttack, while Rutumbara of Khurda got the better of Sunyasakta Satpathy of the same town.
Four players are lagging in the joint second spot with three points apiece. They are Krushna Mishra, Sreejita Khuntia, Gitashree Biswal and Suhana Jena.
Semifinalists spotted
Jammu and Kashmir Zone-A and Central Zone-A will meet North Eastern Zone-A and Central Zone-B respectively in the semifinals of the All India CRPF Inter Zonal Hockey Tournament at the Kalinga Stadium here Thursday.
In the league matches played Wednesday, North Eastern Zone-A and Central Zone-A beat Jammu and Kashmir Zone –B and Southern Zone –B by
5-1 and 3-0 respectively. Jammu and Kashmir Zone-A and Southern Zone-A blanked Central Zone-B and North Eastern Zone-B by 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.
New shooting centre
Pune based Gun for Glory (GFG) shooting academy
inaugurated its new centre here Wednesday. This
shooting range is the seventh franchise center of GFG across the country. The academy here has ten lanes in the 10m air rifle and air pistol range.
Olympic medallist Gagan Narang who manages GFG, had expressed his strong desire to open shooting academies throughout the country. “We have a strong desire to promote shooting in every nook and corner of the country. Orissa has a lot of potential in shooting but the state needs proper infrastructure and training to groom the youngsters,” stated coach Sourav Solani.
