Smriti Mandhana, Palash Muchhal engaged

New Delhi: It was a sweet surprise for Smriti Mandhana when her fiance, popular singer Palash Muchhal, proposed to her at the DY Patil Stadium — the venue where India won the Women’s World Cup final against South Africa earlier this month. In a video shared by Palash, he is seen leading Smriti to the centre of the pitch and giving her the biggest surprise of all by presenting her with a ring. “She said yes,” Palash wrote as he shared the heartwarming video.

The clip begins with Palash guiding Smriti, who is blindfolded, to the middle of the ground at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. When she finally removes the blindfold, she finds her longtime boyfriend down on one knee, proposing to her. A delighted and emotional Smriti accepts the proposal. Moments later, friends of both Smriti and Palash rush to the centre of the pitch to celebrate the special occasion with the couple. Palash’s sister, Palak Muchhal, also a popular singer, joined them at the venue. Smriti and Palash are set to tie the knot Sunday, 23 November.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a note congratulating the couple, saying that he expects the grace of Mandhana’s cover drive to form a wonderful partnership with “the lilting musical symphony” of Mucchal. Smriti broke the news to her fans and followers on social media through a hilarious reel, featuring her World Cup-winning teammates, Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav, among others. The left-handed opener flaunted her engagement ring in the video shared on her Instagram profile.

Smriti and Palash have shared a long, steady relationship, keeping their bond mostly private while supporting each other through their respective careers. Palash was seen cheering for Smriti and the India women’s team during the World Cup final against South Africa earlier this month. Smriti has timed her wedding as well as her cover drives. The Indian opener is enjoying one of the best phases of his career on the field. She played a key role in India’s maiden World Cup triumph.
