Bhubaneswar: Social activist Muktikanta Biswal, who conducted the ‘Delhi Chalo’ mission, Saturday met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and raised demands for the construction of a second bridge over Brahmani river and the upgradation of Ispat General Hospital (IGH).
BJD’s Raghunathpali MLA Subrat Tarai accompanied when Muktikanta met the Chief Minister at Naveen Nivas.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Muktikanta said, “The Chief Minister promised that he would discuss my demands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Notably, he had started his padayatra to meet the Chief Minister from Rourkela July 30.
Earlier, he had walked all the way to Delhi from Rourkela to remind the PM of the promises he had made during his maiden visit to the Steel City.
Muktikanta started his journey to Delhi by foot April 16. He managed to cover about 1,350 km before fainting on the highway. He had been admitted to a hospital in Agra June 27. After recovering, Muktikanta resumed his journey.
On reaching Delhi, Muktikanta first met Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, seeking his help to meet the PM.
The minister, however, said that there was no need for him to meet the PM as the construction of the second bridge had already started.
Besides, the work for a super specialty in the burns and plastic surgery department of IGH has also started, the minister reportedly told him.
However, Muktikanta was taken into custody by Delhi Police while sitting on a dharna near Jantar Mantar.
Having failed to meet Modi, Muktikanta finally returned to Rourkela July 8.
