Muniguda, Nov 29: Dongria tribals in Duaragudi village under this block of Rayagada district experienced the joy of electricity for the first time Saturday after their houses were lit up following the installation of a solar power project in their village.
A solar panel was installed in the village thanks to the efforts of a social outfit called Mahashakti Foundation and with financial assistance provided by The Energy Research Institute (TERI) and Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI).
With the installation of the project, 41 Dongria tribal families will now enjoy power supply to their homes. The tribals were until now living in darkness even after 68 years of independence. Each family has been provided with two lights in their homes.
The solar power panel installed in the village was inaugurated by sarpanch Arakhita Hikka at a function that was also attended by Jugal Kishore Pattnaik of Mahashakti Foundation. Speaking at the function, Hikka said the solar project will fulfill the long-standing need of electricity of the tribals.
The Dongrias attended the function in large numbers where the solar project head Buddhadev Sahu trained them on maintenance and safeguard of the power panel.
