Udayagiri: In a shocking incident triggered by family dispute, relatives of a woman allegedly tied her estranged husband to a village post and brutally assaulted him in Gajapati district Wednesday.
Police said the victim, identified as Jalant Baliarsingh of Budishila village under Bramhanigaon police limits, was rescued Thursday morning after spending the entire night tied to the post in Garadama village under Adaba police limits.
According to reports, Jalant married Subhadra Malabisoi of Garadama village three years ago. However, due to marital discord, Subhadra’s family brought her back to her parental home 11 months ago.
Both families lodged complaints at the local police station, and the matter is currently sub judice in a court.
The incident occurred when Jalant visited Garadama village to collect PDS rice.
Informed of his presence, Subhadra’s family members, along with some villagers, allegedly attacked him.
They tied him to a post in the village square and brutally beat him up again.
On being informed, Adaba police reached the spot, pacified the family and villagers, and rescued the victim.
No formal complaint has been lodged so far in connection with the incident, Adaba IIC Shubhranta Panda said.
