Sonepur: The Odisha government Tuesday suspended Sanjay Kumar Tripathy, District Registrar of Cooperative Societies (DRCS) in Subarnapur following allegations of irregularities in recruitment at a Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) in the district. The action was taken under provisions of the Odisha Civil Services rules on the direction of the governor.
During the suspension period, Tripathy will be attached to the office of the Sambalpur DRCS, and he has been directed not to leave without prior permission. The move comes after reports of alleged nepotism in appointments at the Maradugochha PACS in Tarbha block surfaced. Officials, including the secretary, a peon and a night watchman, allegedly secured jobs for their sons and relatives through voluntary retirement schemes, enabling immediate appointments on the same day.
District Collector Nruparaj Sahu had sought an explanation from Tripathy and reviewed related files after the issue surfaced. Although the appointments were later cancelled, the matter triggered protests among local farmers and residents. Following an inquiry that indicated violations of government norms, including bypassing due recruitment procedures, the collector recommended disciplinary action.
